BBQ and Curriculum Night this Thursday, September 15

Bonjour tout le monde! Thank you for all the warm wishes for a speedy recovery for my mom as she recovers from her surgery this past Friday. The children have been so kind to send her warm thoughts and have asked about how she is doing.

Please remember that Thursday, September 15 is Curriculum Night at 6:00 pm.

There will be a BBQ hosted by the Parent Council from 5-6 pm at the back of the school. Hot dogs are $1.00 and Water will be $1.00.

Schedule:
5-6pm BBQ
6:00-6:15pm Welcome in the gym
6:20-6:40pm Class rotation #1
6:45-7:05 pm Class rotation #2

My apologies, a detailed copy of the timetable and a hand-out on Academic Levels will be given on that night as it did not come with the initial package last week.

Many thanks to all who have filled out the volunteer and "getting to know you" forms. It helps me to find better instructional strategies and forge a better relationship with your child in order to have a successful and fruitful school year.

Please take a look at the important dates as there are a few updates:

September 30: Photo Day
September 29: Pizza Lunch

Looking forward to meeting you and your families on Thursday :)

Mon Ane!

As we assemble at the carpet for lessons or community circle, the children sing a long to this French nursery rhyme: Mon Ane. As requested by the children, it is available here on the blog. Enjoy!

Let's make a pattern!

An introduction and review to repeating patterns filled our math period today. We were able to identify the repeating motif (motif répété) and to distinguish between one, two and three attribute (colour, size, form, position) patterns. Throughout the next few weeks we will be exploring growth and decrease of patterns and its relation to numbers in a hundreds chart and number line. Enjoy the fabulous work!

Bienvenue a l'annee scolaire 2011-2012!

Welcome everyone to an exciting year at Clairlea! The day was full of "getting to know you" games, a collective classroom rule-making session, a chance at writing and sharing in the author's chair and a quick overview of how to select a book for independent reading.

I will be sending out a welcome package by the end of this week. In it, you will find:

a) our timetable
b) a parent volunteer form
c) a child information form

Please return this package as well as the large Clairlea envelope package with forms as soon as possible.

Agendas will be distributed next Monday.

This week's homework will be daily reading at home. The children are reviewing how to choose the perfect book for them. Some guidelines:
-A TOO EASY book is a book that might not be interesting, has few words and can be finished quickly
-A TOO HARD book is a book that has 5 words or more that they do not understand, they cannot fluidly read the book and becomes uninteresting
-A PERFECT book is a book that has words that they understand, some words that they do not know but can use their comprehension strategies to try and find meaning and that is of general interest to them.

A more formal book log will be introduced next week!

I look forward to meeting each of you next Thursday, September 15 for Curriculum Night. It was lovely to meet some parents this morning. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me here at school: 416-396-6165 or via email: jesselyn.dungo@tdsb.on.ca

Take care and looking forward to a great year :)

Sincerely,
Mme Dungo

Zoo Trip - June 20th!

Salut! Just to let you know that we are going to the Metro Toronto Zoo on Monday, June 20th. Parents are more than welcome to come, however, we do not have enough seats on the school bus for any parent supervisors. If you would like to come, please meet us at the zoo at the entrance and pay for your fare separately. Please let me know if you are coming to the zoo by this Friday via telephone (416-396-6165) or email (jesselyn.dungo@tdsb.on.ca)

To bring to the zoo:

-a packed lumch (nothing too heavy as the children will be walking with their knapsacks the entire day)

-a bottle of water

-sunscreen

-hat

-wear appropriate and comfortable footwear (we do not advise flip flops and sandals that do not have a heel strap)

We will be going with Ms. Moledina and Mme Angelevski's class.
