Bienvenue a l'annee scolaire 2011-2012!

Welcome everyone to an exciting year at Clairlea! The day was full of "getting to know you" games, a collective classroom rule-making session, a chance at writing and sharing in the author's chair and a quick overview of how to select a book for independent reading.

I will be sending out a welcome package by the end of this week. In it, you will find:

a) our timetable
b) a parent volunteer form
c) a child information form

Please return this package as well as the large Clairlea envelope package with forms as soon as possible.

Agendas will be distributed next Monday.

This week's homework will be daily reading at home. The children are reviewing how to choose the perfect book for them. Some guidelines:
-A TOO EASY book is a book that might not be interesting, has few words and can be finished quickly
-A TOO HARD book is a book that has 5 words or more that they do not understand, they cannot fluidly read the book and becomes uninteresting
-A PERFECT book is a book that has words that they understand, some words that they do not know but can use their comprehension strategies to try and find meaning and that is of general interest to them.

A more formal book log will be introduced next week!

I look forward to meeting each of you next Thursday, September 15 for Curriculum Night. It was lovely to meet some parents this morning. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to contact me here at school: 416-396-6165 or via email: jesselyn.dungo@tdsb.on.ca

Take care and looking forward to a great year :)

Sincerely,
Mme Dungo
