Science Switch!

For Your Information:

The Grade 3s this term are being taught Grade 3 Science by Mme Camara and Mme Deda. The mark reflected in the upcoming report card will reflect the Science strand that I taught last term.

The Grade 2s this term are being taught Grade 2 Science by yours truly with the Grade 2s from Mme Camara and Mme Deda in Salle 112.

We are switching every Monday and Tuesday during the two periods after last recess.

Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call, email or write a note in your child's agenda.

Thanks for your support,
Mme Dungo

Obwisana!

In Social Studies we are studying various forms of community, both urban and rural and world communities. We are comparing forms of shelter, food, climate and also music. In the spirit of Black history month we are using the beginning two lines of this song: "Tue Tue barima tue tue" as a call and response this month for the children's signal in the classroom. The primary choir will be learning a simplified version of this Ghanaian song originally used as a form of song play using sticks. "Obwisana sana sa" literally means, "I hit my finger on a rock." We will be learning in class the stick game that goes along with the song.

Enjoy the music! Feel to try the game at home!

Extra socks please!

The children are enjoying the weather outside and from time to time come indoors from recess with soaked stocking feet. Please send an extra pair of socks with your child as we let the soaked stockings dry on the radiator.

Hope this helps!

Bienvenue Mme Preketes!

We are happy to host our student teacher, Mme Preketes who is currently at the Faculty of Education. Mme Preketes will help our class every Monday until April and will teach until May. She has been a great support and we hope that she enjoys and learns with us throughout the rest of the term. Bienvenue!

PA Day this Friday, January 21st

Just a reminder that there is a PA DAY this Friday, January 21st. There is no school this Friday, please remember to make other arrangements for child care if need be.

On another note, we have found our class camera! Stay tuned for neat posts and lessons!

Thank you to everyone for being so well-behaved during recess eventhough throwing snow is tempting at recess. Bravo Salle 112 :)

Please make sure that you have reviewed the letter that came home regarding an incident after school last Friday. Please review safety procedures with your child regarding being approached by strangers. We reviewed and brainstormed ways to be safe on and off school property.

Hope this helps!

Bonne Année 2011!

Welcome back! I wish you and your families a healthy and prosperous 2011 :) We had a great first start of the school year and enjoyed making New Year's Resolutions.

Just a few reminders:

1) Homework has begun again! In the hustle and bustle of last year's clean-up we seem to be missing some green Etude de Mots folders, please have a look at home to see if they are there.

En francais:

Our sounds of the week:

2e: au, eau, op, os, ot

3e: eil, ail, ille, eille, ill

Our reading strategies:

Reading before and after the unknown word and/or idea to grasp better understanding (using context).

New Reading Log sheets are being sent home for 15 minutes of reading each night.

Mathematics:

We are starting our unit on measurement incorporating temperature, mass, capacity and all good things able to be measured, stay tuned...

Problem of the Week folders will begin again this Wednesday. Look out for the blue folders.

2) Lost Items
Please be sure to remind your children to leave valuables at home. We are currently looking for an R4 game for a Nintendo DS and a small flashlight. Please have a look at home and/or in your child's knapsack.

Thank you for your support. Please contact me at the school 416-396-6165 and by email: jesselyn.dungo@tdsb.on.ca if you have any questions or concerns.

Looking forward to a fruitful 2011!

Hope this helps!
