Great to see you!
Thanks everyone for coming out to our Curriculum Night BBQ! For those who were absent, I look forward to meeting with you throughout the school year.
Just to reiterate our learning objectives from September to October:
MATHEMATICS:
We are learning to decipher patterns and pattern rules. We are representing them linearly on a graph and deriving the algebraic equation that can be used to predict the nth term.
LANGUAGE (French and English):
Listening: We are learning how to listen to each other in order to express ideas, feelings and questions spontaneously.
Oral Communication: We are practicing how to spontaneously express ideas, feelings and questions incorporating new vocabulary in all subject areas taught in French language: (Language, Mathematics, History, Visual Arts).
Reading Comprehension: We are looking at deciphering the main idea in a text and supporting it with textual clues in order to write an effective summary. We are practicing our independent reading strategies by getting into the habit of reading 5/7 nights a week for at least 20 minutes in addition to reading in class.
Writing: We are being introduced to the Writing Workshop using the 6 traits of writing, (ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, conventions) in order to produce the Biography, Anecdote and Personal Memoir text forms. We are beginning to self-evaluate our work using rubrics and success criteria that we have discussed in class.
HISTORY: We are exploring the relationship between First Nations peoples and Europeans and how it has impacted Canada in the present day. We will be looking at biographies of First Nations leaders, chiefs, artists and writers and evaluating their impact on Canadian society.
Hope this helps!

French library via TDSB!
An expectation of your child is that he/she will read for 20 minutes each night in French. Starting next week, I will be sending home a reading log where the student will record what was read and a short response to his/her text. One challenge is to find French sources that are interesting and at your child's level.
The TDSB's virtual library has articles, databases, and websites in French that can be a source of reading for your child!
Click on "Virtual Library" on the left-hand side column.
From here, you can click on a number of options:
Click on, "Liens Francais" and you can choose Les Plan, Nos Nouvelles, Junior Universalis to research different articles, and "Liens principaux www" to search websites.
Click on, "ebooks" and you can choose tabvue for social studies books online, Follet Shelf
I encourage you and your children to explore the TDSB virtual library.... en francais!
