Great to see you!

Thanks everyone for coming out to our Curriculum Night BBQ!  For those who were absent, I look forward to meeting with you throughout the school year.

Just to reiterate our learning objectives from September to October:

MATHEMATICS:
We are learning to decipher patterns and pattern rules.  We are representing them linearly on a graph and deriving the algebraic equation that can be used to predict the nth term.

LANGUAGE (French and English):
Listening: We are learning how to listen to each other in order to express ideas, feelings and questions spontaneously.

Oral Communication: We are practicing how to spontaneously express ideas, feelings and questions  incorporating new vocabulary in all subject areas taught in French language: (Language, Mathematics, History, Visual Arts).

Reading Comprehension: We are looking at deciphering the main idea in a text and supporting it with textual clues in order to write an effective summary.  We are practicing our independent reading strategies by getting into the habit of reading 5/7 nights a week for at least 20 minutes in addition to reading in class.

Writing: We are being introduced to the Writing Workshop using the 6 traits of writing, (ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, conventions) in order to produce the Biography, Anecdote and Personal Memoir text forms.  We are beginning to self-evaluate our work using rubrics and success criteria that we have discussed in class.

HISTORY:  We are exploring the relationship between First Nations peoples and Europeans and how it has impacted Canada in the present day.  We will be looking at biographies of First Nations leaders, chiefs, artists and writers and evaluating their impact on Canadian society.

Hope this helps!
