Dear Clairlea Families,
This is just a reminder that tomorrow is Toonie Tuesday. Students at all TDSB schools are asked to bring in a toonie or whatever they can to help the relief effort for Japan which was hit by a devastating earthquake and then tsunami just over two weeks a go. The TDSB will forward all donations to the Red Cross. A $10 donation will send a bucket and jerry can for a family to collect and store clean drinking water; a $25 donation will send five blankets to a family in need; a $60 donation will send hygiene items to two families; and a $364 donation will provide a tent for a family left homeless. Just think about what a difference a school of 528 students can make. We have already seen amazing examples of generosity with young children bringing in their personal savings.
Over the past week, students at our school have been busy making enough origami paper cranes so that every child can take home a crane as a symbol of hope for Japan's recovery. As we are an Eco School, most paper cranes were made from discarded paper that was headed for recycling. Something else to feel good about. Teachers will still be collecting money after tomorrow if you do not have change to send tomorrow.
Thanks to all of the students, parents, and teachers who pitched in for this important cause.
Merci beaucoup!
